If you’re buying a 3 or 4 year old used car, ask the seller to make sure there isn’t a transferable warranty already in place on the car. Check on the factory warranty – you can purchase an extended warranty right before the manufacturer’s original warranty runs out.

A used car warranty should include comprehensive coverage for major components as well as mechanical breakdowns, including:

- fuel pump
Look for roadside assistance, car rental reimbursement and travel interruption expenses.
